基本情報

「計算」に関する英語は日本語と同様の語順で表現できますが、 分数の表現は順序が異なります。 また、「＝」の表現は「is」や「equals」を使います。

足し算「addition」

足し算は「plus」を使って表現します。

１＋３＝４
One plus three is four.
One plus three equals four.

引き算「subtraction」

引き算は「minus」を使って表現します。

１０ー６＝４
Ten minus six is four.
Ten minus six is four.

掛け算「multiplication」

掛け算は「times」や「multiplied by」を使って表現します。

５×８＝４０
Five times eight is forty.
Five times eight equals forty.
Five multiplied by eight is forty.
Five multiplied by eight equals forty.

割り算「division」

割り算は「divided by」を使って表現します。

５０÷５＝１０
Fifty divided by five is ten.
Fifty divided by five equals ten.

割り切れずに余りがある場合は「with a remainder of」を使って表現します。

２０÷３＝６・・・２
Twenty divided by three is six with a remainder of two.
Twenty divided by three equals six with a remainder of two.

負の数

負の数は「negative」を使って表現します。

−５＋３＝−２
Negative five plus three is negative two.
Negative five plus three equals negative two.

小数「decimal fraction」

小数点は点の部分を「point」を使って表現します。 なお、小数は「decimals」や「decimal fraction」、小数点は「decimal point」と呼ばれます。

3.1+3=6.1
Three point one plus three is six point one.
Three point one plus three equals six point one.

0.12+1.23 = 1.35
Zero point one two plus one point two three is one point three five.

「小数点第一位」は「first decimal place」などと表現します。

分数「fraction」

分数は、最初に分子(numerator)を読み、その後分母(denominator)を序数で読みます。 序数は、first,second,third,fourth,などの表現です。 分子が複数(2以上)の場合は、thirds,fourthsなどとなります。

3分の2(2/3)
two thirds

5分の3(3/5)
three fifths

また、「2分の1」や「4分の1」を表す特別な表現もあります。

2分の1(1/2)
a half
one half

4分の1(1/4)
a quarter

「四捨五入」「切り上げ」「切り捨て」

「四捨五入」は「round off」、「切り上げ」は「round up」、「切り捨て」は「round down」で表現します。

I rounded off the number.
私はその数字を四捨五入した。

「最大公約数」「最小公倍数」

「最大公約数」は「greatest common divisor」、「最小公倍数」は「least common multiple」で表現します。

「偶数」「奇数」

「偶数」は「even number」、「奇数」は「odd number」で表現します。

3 is an odd number.
３は奇数です。

「累乗」

「２乗」は「squared」、「３乗」は「cubed」で表現します。

３の２乗は９です。
Three squared is nine.

「不等号」など

「不等号」は「greater than」や「less than」で表現します。

A > B
A is greater than B.

A < B
A is less than B.

「≧」「≦」などは以下のように表現します。

A ≧ B
A is greater than or equal to B.

A ≦ B
A is less than or equal to B.

「≠」「≒」などは以下のように表現します。

A ≠ B
A is not equal to B.

A ≒ B
A is nearly equal to B.
